Cooking Oil Comparison Chart
Ever wondered about how to use all these darn oils for cooking? Is it unhealthy to use olive oil for frying? Does coconut oil tolerate high heat (high smoking point)? Does flaxseed oil go rancid very quickly? Find out the answers to all these questions in this very handy chart displaying information on cooking oils and their usage. A very handy information tool.
New Recipe: Carrot Frittatas
Hey guys, sorry about being so horrible in adding new content. It's just that (I know, same excuse every time) I have been so terribly busy. So.terribly.busy. I am now half way through the MA in Health Psychology. I am enjoying it very much but so relieved to get a little break for now. It's not like I have been lazy...not at all. In fact I have been very active in the kitchen although my menu mostly consists of pureed food in some form (for my 10 months son). It's an absolute joy to feed this gentleman (as it was his 2.5 year old sister).
Anyway, here is a new recipe, Carrot Frittatas which I enjoyed a lot, very light yet tasty, the whole family loved it.
New Recipe: Macadamia- and cranberry biscotti
It's been a while. I'm kind of drowning in revision and essay writing, taking care of the kids (6 months old and 2 years old) and of course they are ill at the same time. However, making these biscottis only takes about 20 minutes and then you have plenty to savour for a while (if you manage to hide them from other family members that is). I am telling you, these are saving my sanity during the exam/essays/Christmas/sick children period.
Raw Cake at Vantra
.jpg)
I visited Vantra the other day with my friend Maria (she took the photo above). We had a raw chocolate cake to share. It was pretty good, nothing spectacular and I have made many similar if I say so myself. It's always nice however sitting down for a chat and a cake with a good mate. Since I was there I also took home one slice of their vegan cakes. I wanted to take home another slice of the chocolate cake for Johannes but didn't as I wanted to try something else and I regretted it deeply. The banana cake was not good at all, especially the frosting which was made out of soy cream and tasted of nothing, just fat really and it was airy and dry and weird. I have been a few times to Vantra and I like the place and their smoothies and coffies are delicious. I have only once tasted their food and it was fairly yummy. The layout of the counter leaves much space for improvement and I am always confused when ordering. I would definitely recommend a visit however if you are a vegan visiting in London.
Birthday Girl

My little one is two years old today. It seems many lifetimes ago that she was born, so tiny and helpless (as all babies are). She gives us joy and laughter and we are grateful for her, her health, her smiles and her innocence. She often gives us headaches (all children do) but most of the time she is sweet, energetic and funny. She is tremendously generous and so good with her 3 months old little brother. She has a very good appetite, it's even larger than her mother's and she wolfed down 3 pieces of the Nut and Date Cake I made her, for her birthday. She has never tasted sweets, chocolate or store bought cakes. She would probably prefer steamed broccoli. She has a big temperament (trying to enforce world domination in 2.3 seconds) and she often sheds crocodile tears. But we love her, dearly.
My little darling, happy birthday :)
Banksy in 'da hood

I love Banksy and his work always puts a smile on my face, especially when I encounter a Banksy in my neighbourhood. This one is near Cleveland Street, just by BT Tower in W1W.
Looking up in London
When out and about one often forgets to look up....although when you do, you might notice something unexpected!

Vantra - a lovely veggie place
Have been meaning to try out Vantra for a long time. Ever since I moved to London (roughly one thousand years ago). Their first place was in a shoebox. Literally. It was minuscule. Now they have moved to a bigger place and it has that "crunchy granola" look and feel. Exactly what one would expect from a place selling things like "nutmylk" (with a "y" because it's not milk). I had a smoothie today and it was lovely. It contained cacao, mango and soy milk. It wasn't cheap but then again Starbucks is selling a tall decaf soy latte for almost the same amount. And Starbucks is not organic. Or raw. Or crunchy granola. I was happy I tried out Vantra because it means there is yet another place suitable for crazy people like me that doesn't like processed foods, white sugar etc. My friend Maria is even more hard to please and she was happy with her savoury dish (which looked and tasted yummy). I will definitely go there again and if you are in London (near Soho Square), looking for a nice vegan (and mostly raw), Vantra is the place to go.

Govindas, the Hari Krishna Place

Vantra, finally I tried it out

Lovely and cozy
New Recipe: Strawberry and Watermelon Drink
Watermelons and strawberries are a wonderful combination, so refreshing, summery and sweet. It's also very easy to make a quick and energising drink such as this one. This drink is in my view, the perfect summer drink.
Cherries and Pears
Sometimes (well often) I can be such an idiot. I was not blessed with the talent of gardening. I am the worst gardener in history and everything that is supposed to be green and luscious dies or develops a disease or becomes very, very tragic looking. I am amazed that I am able to keep another human being (almost 2 year old) alive (and another one growing inside of me…due any day now). It’s a miracle really. I just wish I was one of those Earth Mothers type that turn everything that grows into fabulous vegetables, fruits and herbs to use in her cooking. That’s not me. I buy everything at the market or supermarket and I envy all the other people that can do this themselves. Believe me I have tried.
Where we live there is a small patch of pebbled garden at the front. There are some trees there which I haven’t given much notice as I generally don’t notice trees. The other day my husband said to me that he thought there were some cherries growing on one of the trees. Impossible I said. Turns out he was right and not only was there a cherry tree (Rainier cherries) but there is a pear tree as well (I think, they look like pears anyway). How fabulous is that, I didn’t even need to water any plants! We did some cherry picking yesterday and it reminded me that I REALLY would like to know how to garden and I REALLY would like to have the patience to do it. Maybe one day. Below are photos showing the cherries and the pear tree.
