Ginger Drink
6. May, 2009
This is a very refreshing drink, especially in the summer time, or when you have a cold. It is also good if you are detoxing. If you have a soar throat you might want to use honey (such as acacia honey) instead of the agave nectar. For a ginger- ale feel you can add carbonated (sparkling) water.

Ginger Drink
Serves 2
Ingredients
- 10 grams (¼ oz) fresh ginger
- 400 millilitres (13½ fluid oz) water
- 2 tablespoons agave nectar
- ½ teaspoon lemon juice
- A couple of ice cubes
Preparation
- Peel the 10 grams ginger (the skin is very thin, you can scrape it off with a teaspoon or a small knife). Slice thinly.
- Place 400 millilitres water in a small saucepan. Add the ginger.
- Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
- If you want a strong ginger taste, allow the ginger to sit in the water for 30 minutes, otherwise discard the ginger.
- Pour the ginger water through a sieve and into a container.
- Add 2 tablespoons agave nectar and ½ teaspoon lemon juice into the container. Stir well.
- Place the container in the fridge for 1 hour or longer.
- Pour the ginger ale into two large glasses (size depends on whether you want strong ginger taste or not, use smaller glasses for strong ginger taste and larger for a milder taste).
- Add ice cubes and top up the glasses with ice cold water.
- Serve with teaspoons (so that each person can stir their drink).
Tips
- You can add carbonated water into the drink, for a fizzy drink.
- You can prepare a larger batch if you like and freeze into ice cubes.
- I sometimes add a little orange juice, it gives a lovely taste.
