Orange and Cinnamon Tea

I love the scent of oranges and cinnamon. There is something very soothing about that lovely combination of sweet and spicy. When I am stressed because of work, or very tired, I often make this tea when I get home because I find it very calming and it helps me rewind. This is also one of my favourite winter teas.

Quite refreshing and lovely tea

Orange and Cinnamon Tea

Serves 2 people

Ingredients

  • 500 millilitres (17 fluid oz) water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 10 centimetres (4 inches) piece orange peel
  • 1 teaspoon orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon agave nectar or acacia honey

Preparation

  1. Place the 500 millilitres water in a small saucepan.
  2. Peel a 10 centimetres strip off the orange with a small knife. Be careful not to include the soft/white pith (it is very bitter).
  3. Add the cinnamon stick and the orange peel to the saucepan.
  4. Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour into a sieve and discard the orange peel and cinnamon stick.
  6. Add the 1 teaspoon orange juice and 1 teaspoon agave nectar or acacia honey.
  7. Stir well and serve immediately.
  8. Decorate with a slice of orange if you like.

Tips

  • You can use any type of honey you prefer instead of the acacia honey.
  • You can use maple syrup instead of the agave nectar or honey.
  • You can add a small piece of ginger for an even more refreshing taste.
