Beverages

I don't drink alcohol, never have and never will. I hate the taste of it (and the effect it has on people). I prefer healthy juices and smoothies instead and I love home made teas as well. Smoothies can be filling and are perfect for a healthy start to the day. Freshly squeezed juices are refreshing and perfect on a hot summer's day.

A very refreshing and delicious drink

Ginger, Carrot and Melon Juice

I prefer to use a Galia melon for this recipe but you can use whichever melon is in season (such as Honey Dew or Cantaloupe). Just make sure it is ripe.

This is a fantastic iced drink, perfect for the hot summer day!

Iced Latte

I first had a similar iced latte at a cafe called Englen in Aarhus, Denmark. We were visiting friends from home, Sigrún (my namesake) and her husband Freyr.

A very refreshing and cleansing drink

Kiwi and Lime Juice

When my husband tasted this drink for the first time he said: "Mmmmm delicious, I would definitely buy this drink if sold somewhere".

A very magical drink and healthy as well

Magic Drink for Kids

Getting kids to eat their "five a day" can be a bit tricky. As soon as some children hear any mention of veggies (or fruit), they run out the door.

My husband's favourite smoothie

Mango and Peanut Butter Smoothie

I love, love, love this smoothie. Bananas, mango and peanut butter is a divine combination.

A lovely and refreshing drink with a cooling effect

Melon and Yoghurt Smoothie

I love the cooling effect of this drink and I often serve it after a spicy meal.

A delicious and refreshing tea

Mint Tea

This drink hardly requires introduction since it is widely enjoyed all over the world. I have had mint tea in Japan, in Africa, in the US and of course in Europe.

This drink will keep your body in mint condition!

Mint, Kiwi and Pineapple Juice

This is a fairly thick juice (more like a smoothie) but you don't need a juicer as you can blend the ingredients in a blender (or even a food processor).

A smoothie packed with antioxidants and vitamin C

Mixed Berry Smoothie

This smoothie is packed with antioxidants and vitamin C. It is thick and creamy and I love its deep colour which, depending on the berries in season is blue, purple or pink.

Mulled Wine/Glögg (non-alcoholic)

Mulled wine usually contains red wine combined with spices and sugar. The reason for the additional spices was to make the wine drinkable again in the old days (since it often went bad).

A fruity and sweet smoothie

Nectarine and Pear Smoothie

This is a lovely smoothie and not too difficult to make.

Quite refreshing and lovely tea

Orange and Cinnamon Tea

I love the scent of oranges and cinnamon. There is something very soothing about that lovely combination of sweet and spicy.

An excellent detox juice, packed with vitamins

Orange, Carrot and Ginger Juice

This is a lovely juice and one you could easily buy (overpriced, mind you) in a juice bar or a health food store as it is a classic combination.

A lovely summer drink, sweet yet tangy

Passion Fruit and Mango Smoothie

This drink is like Africa (or at least Tanzania and Kenya) in a tumbler. There are very few things that have reminded me as much of those places as the first sip I took of this drink.

A refreshing and cleansing juice

Pear and Ginger Juice

This is a very cleansing and refreshing drink, perfect when pears are in season. Pears are rich in fibre and vitamin C and are very good for cleansing our systems.

A very healthy drink, excellent for the digestive system

Pineapple and Blueberry Smoothie

I guess you didn't think of putting pineapples and blueberries together in a drink did you? It is actually a lovely combination and the smoothie is quite easy to make.

An excellent smoothie for the digestive system

Pineapple Smoothie

This is an excellent smoothie for the digestive system since pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down proteins and is very good for your stomach.

A delicious pistachio nut milk

Pistachio Milk

This is not exactly a smoothie but more of a milky drink. If you are not intolerant to nuts, but are intolerant to dairy, this might be the perfect drink for you.

This drink reminds me so much of a very hot and sweaty day in Uganda

Refreshing Pineapple and Coconut Drink from Uganda

It was a baking hot day in a town called Jinja, Uganda.

Not the most beautiful smoothie in the world but very healthy

Rhubarb and Banana Smoothie

I know that this smoothie doesn't look beautiful...it has a brownish colour and looks kind of uninteresting.

A very healthy milk shake, packed with good stuff

Rhubarb and Strawberry Milk Shake

I love, love, love this "milk" shake (which is actually not made with any dairy products). Forget the milk shakes you can buy in those fast food places because this is the real deal.

A delicious smoothie packed with fibre, vitamins and antioxidants

Rhubarb and Strawberry Smoothie

When we were kids growing up in Iceland every neighbour had a garden plot outside their home with potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and rhubarb.

Don't be scared to try out the tofu, you won't notice any tofu-taste!

Strawberry and Banana Tofu Smoothie

When I was working in Denmark during a couple of my summer holidays I used to train horses. Each morning I had to go out and feed them and it so happened that I crossed a small strawberry patch.

A refreshing and very healthy drink

Strawberry and Watermelon Drink

I love the texture of this drink because it's very light and almost frothy and wonderfully refreshing.

A delicious smoothie, perfect for summer

Strawberry Smoothie

Strawberries are packed with vitamin C and they contain fibre and antioxidants as well. Sweet, organic strawberries, freshly picked from a field (think Danish strawberries) are my favourite fruit.
