Confectioneries / Small Treats
Although I could look at a box of chocolates for hours and admire it I never buy them, or eat them, unless a) they are from a health food store b) the chocolate is fair trade and c) the chocolate contains raw cane sugar. Then I might consider it. I just love looking at the fancy chocolates (usually the most unhealthy ones), they look so divine, like little pieces of artwork some of them. I always have loads of treats on hand in my fridge, in case I have visitors over. There is nothing better than serving home made treats and confectioneries with your coffee. They are really easy to make as long as you have a food processor on hand. It doesn't need to be fancy to do the job, you can always blend the fruits and nuts and other ingredients in smaller batches.
Almond Cookies with Chocolate Frosting
Almonds are packed with calcium and protein and macadamia nuts also contain healthy stuff, notably the mono-unsaturated fats which are good for our heart.
Cashew and Mango Ice Cream Drops
This is a delicious treat. I love the look on my guests' faces when I serve them frozen treats. They never expect it (but are very delighted when they try it out).
Chocolate and Almond Fudge
I haven't met a single person that does not love these treats. They are quick and easy to make and if you are expecting guests in two hours you can quickly make them.
Chocolate and Coconut Balls
These chocolate and coconut balls are something that Icelandic children enjoy from the day they can say 'chocolate'.
Chocolate and Coconut Treats
These are very simple to make and no chopping is required, just melting and combining. These treats are excellent if you are expecting guests in one hour as they are so quick to prepare.
Chocolate and Pistachio Squares
Pistachios are good for your heart and can lower your bad cholesterol. They are also beautiful to look at with their bright green colour.
Christmas Confectionery
Confectionery might perhaps not be the right name to use because it usually indicates something unhealthy wrapped in foil, out of a box with a nice picture on the front.
Confectionery
These are healthy little treats, perfect for your afternoon sugar craving.
Date and Prune Confectionery
Before you decide that these treats are for the "elderly" only (because of the prunes), give them a try and knock the socks off your dinner guests.
Dried Fruit Treats
This recipe was given to me by my friend Lisa who found it in a Danish magazine. She immediately thought of me and I was sure glad she did because it is an absolute favourite.
Frozen Bananas with a Chocolate Dip
Bananas are an excellent fruit and even come in their own packaging!
Middle Eastern Sesame Treats (Halvah)
There are several different varieties and even names for Halvahs, the healthy Middle Eastern treats.
Pistachio and Coconut Treats
I have often seriously considered using a pad lock on my containers because when you make something so nice as these delicious treats, it's very, very hard to keep your fingers away.
Sesame and Maple Syrup Treats
These are quick to make although they require some dexterity unless you use small cake moulds.
Walnut and Honey Treats
These are quite unusual because normally I don't use honey (I am not that keen on honey). I find however that it fits perfectly with the sesame seeds.
Walnut and Raisin Cookies / Treats
Walnuts are amazingly healthy and are sometimes called the "heart's seat belt" because of their heart protective qualities. They are also good for our brain.
