Cleansing Citrus Juice
When I was making this drink for the first time it reminded me so much of Kenya. The reason for that is that in Kenya you get green oranges. Well the rind is green and the flesh is light orange, almost yellow. The flesh has a slightly sour taste although it is sweet as well. The first time I saw these oranges in Kenya I thought it strange how many Kenyans ate limes! It wasn't until I tasted one of those "limes" for myself that I realised that they were of course not limes but oranges. When I tasted them for the first time I was on a 100 year old dhow (small wooden boat) on the Indian Ocean. My hubby had gone for a dive (he is a licensed diver) and when he returned, he was served a slice of the "lime", that's when we realised the truth about the limes!! This is a wonderfully refreshing drink and it always reminds me of Kenya.

A very refreshing and cleansing drink, perfect for detox

Cleansing Citrus Juice
Ingredients
- 1 gram fresh ginger (equal to a grape in size)
- 250 millilitres (8½ fluid oz) orange juice (or juice from 2-3 oranges)
- 2 carrots
- 1 lime
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Preparation
- Peel the 2 carrots and run through the juicer. Pour juice into a container.
- Peel the ginger (the skin is very thin, you can scrape it off with a teaspoon or a small knife). Slice in two parts.
- Add the 250 millilitres orange juice into the container.
- Slice the lime in half and squeeze the juice into the container.
- Add the 1 teaspoon lemon juice.
- Add the ginger pieces and allow to sit in the juice for 30 minutes, then remove and discard (or leave in for a stronger taste).
- Serve chilled and stir well before serving.
Tips
- If you prefer a stronger ginger taste you can juice the ginger as well.
- For an even more refreshing juice, add 50 millilitres (1½ fluid oz) orange juice.
