A Drink for Sore Throats
7. May, 2009
I don't get a sore throat often and I rarely ever get a flu or a cold (thankfully). However when I do, it often affects my throat so that when I swallow any liquid or food it feels like I am swallowing tiny bits of sanding paper. So this one time, when my throat was aching I needed something to sooth it, and fast. I came up with this lovely drink which I have made ever since for both me and my husband. I even make it sometimes even though my throat is fine as it is very nice. I don't like cough remedies as they are full of weird stuff and when I don't understand the ingredients, I don't expect my body to either. This drink is both refreshing and soothing and when I have a bad cold as well, I often pop fresh ginger into it.
My favourite remedy when I have a sore throat

A Drink for Sore Throats
Serves 1-2 people
Ingredients
- 300 millilitres (10 fluid oz) water
- 2 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3-4 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons agave nectar (or acacia honey)
Preparation
- Place the 300 millilitres water in a small saucepan along with the 2 tablespoons agave nectar.
- Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for 3 minutes.
- Add the 2 cloves and 1 cinnamon stick and allow to simmer with the lid on for 20 minutes.
- Remove the cloves and the cinnamon stick and discard.
- Add the 3-4 tablespoons lemon juice.

Tips
- Add a small piece of fresh ginger for an even more refreshing drink.
- I sometimes add a couple of tablespoons orange juice into the drink.
- You can use maple syrup instead of the agave nectar or acacia honey.
- You can use any type of honey you prefer. I prefer the acacia honey.
