Pasta / Noodles

My father refuses to eat pasta, spaghetti or anything Italian for that matter (e.g. pizzas, lasagna). He says it's not food and says that Italian men have never had to work outside in the cold and he states that this is the reason they eat "normal" food. He is not the only one of his generation that has this opinion. My late father in law used to agree. My father is used to working outside in all weathers (blizzards, crazy snowstorms, rain, hail and what not). He is the guy you would spot from a million miles working on a rooftop because he is the only one not wearing a jacket in a blizzard. He says that pasta doesn't keep him warm (he insists that sheep intestines and singed sheep heads do however). I however work in front of a computer all day and I if I get cold I wrap up and drink a hot mug of tea or soup. If I ate the kind of food he does and still sat on my behind, I would look like a balloon. He must work off around 4000 calories each day during the winter time so it makes sense that he doesn't like something as light as pasta.
