Smoothies
If you are in a hurry but still would like to have something healthy in your body before, say going to school or work, a smoothie is a good option. You can pack it with such healthy ingredients such as flaxseeds, oatmeal, nuts (peanut, almond or cashew butter), milk, yoghurt, blueberries, spinach, raspberries, bananas, mangoes, avocados and more. Smoothies can keep you going for a long time as they are quite filling and dense with nutrients, vitamins, protein, healthy fats and minerals. Smoothies are such a perfect way to start the day, especially if you are not keen on scooping cereal into your mouth, you can even grab it to go!
A Very Sticky Nairobi Banana Smoothie
Oh dear, oh dear. It was September 2007 and me and my husband were travelling in Kenya. We were waiting to fly back to London and had a couple of hours to spend.
Avocado and Brazil Nut Smoothie
This smoothie is very filling, almost like a full meal. It is packed with fibre, protein, vitamins A, C and E, calcium and healthy, mono-unsaturated fats.
Avocado and Pineapple Smoothie
This is an excellent smoothie for the whole family. The pineapple contains Bromelain which is an enzyme that helps the digestive system.
Banana and Coconut Smoothie
This is a very filling, yet tasty smoothie which has a strong coconut taste. You can dilute the coconut taste if you prefer, by using half soy milk and half coconut milk.
Banana and Date Smoothie
One night, when home alone (Jóhannes was on a business trip in Portugal) I looked into my fridge and there was nothing in it apart from soy yoghurt and nail polish.
Banana and Peanut Butter Smoothie
This is one of the creamiest, loveliest, smoothie ever.
Blueberry and Coconut Water Smoothie
What can I say.....if there was a competition for the most healthy drink, this would probably get first prize...and the second...and the third...It would also receive an honorary award for being ex
Blueberry and Pear Smoothie
Pears are quite amazing.
Breakfast in a Glass
I know some people that are not keen on breakfasts and I have often told them that it is not a very good idea to start the day without filling your muscles and brain with energy.
Cashew and Banana Milk
This is more of a milk than a smoothie since it is not very thick.
Cleansing Iron Rich Smoothie
This smoothie is particularly good for women since it is packed with iron from the beets (beetroots) and folic acid which is important for pregnant women.
Crowberry and Ginger Smoothie
During my childhood, every autumn my parents picked crowberries and blueberries.
Date and Apricote Smoothie
This is a healthy and filling drink, which I find perfect when I come home from the gym, especially at weekends.
Magic Drink for Kids
Getting kids to eat their "five a day" can be a bit tricky. As soon as some children hear any mention of veggies (or fruit), they run out the door.
Mango and Peanut Butter Smoothie
I love, love, love this smoothie. Bananas, mango and peanut butter is a divine combination.
Melon and Yoghurt Smoothie
I love the cooling effect of this drink and I often serve it after a spicy meal.
Mixed Berry Smoothie
This smoothie is packed with antioxidants and vitamin C. It is thick and creamy and I love its deep colour which, depending on the berries in season is blue, purple or pink.
Nectarine and Pear Smoothie
This is a lovely smoothie and not too difficult to make.
Passion Fruit and Mango Smoothie
This drink is like Africa (or at least Tanzania and Kenya) in a tumbler. There are very few things that have reminded me as much of those places as the first sip I took of this drink.
Pineapple and Blueberry Smoothie
I guess you didn't think of putting pineapples and blueberries together in a drink did you? It is actually a lovely combination and the smoothie is quite easy to make.
Pineapple Smoothie
This is an excellent smoothie for the digestive system since pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down proteins and is very good for your stomach.
Pistachio Milk
This is not exactly a smoothie but more of a milky drink. If you are not intolerant to nuts, but are intolerant to dairy, this might be the perfect drink for you.
Rhubarb and Banana Smoothie
I know that this smoothie doesn't look beautiful...it has a brownish colour and looks kind of uninteresting.
Rhubarb and Strawberry Smoothie
When we were kids growing up in Iceland every neighbour had a garden plot outside their home with potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and rhubarb.
Strawberry and Banana Tofu Smoothie
When I was working in Denmark during a couple of my summer holidays I used to train horses. Each morning I had to go out and feed them and it so happened that I crossed a small strawberry patch.
